OAKLAND, Calif. — Merck & Co., the pharmacology giant that manufactures the anti-inflammatory treatment montelukast aka Singulair, defeated product liability claims in a California federal court. Patients sued, alleging montelukast can cause neuropsychiatric events and homicidal thoughts, as the drug crosses the blood-brain barrier. The Singulair label warns users that this can happen, and nothing on the record suggests the label warnings are inadequate for physicians prescribing montelukast to adults.
