NEW ORLEANS, La. — A federal court in Louisiana granted the sheriff of Orleans Parish’s motion to dismiss a fired correctional officer’s claim that his due process rights were violated because he was not told he could request a “name-clearing hearing” after the sheriff issued a press release stating the deputy was fired for being “untrained, incompetent and unsafe.” An employer is not required to remind employees about their right to such a proceeding, which must be requested by the litigant.
