WASHINGTON — The D.C. Circuit upheld a federal court’s ruling in favor of the White House and against Cameroonian journalist Simon Ateba, who challenged the White House press office’s credentialing process. The White House did not violate the reporter’s First Amendment by relying on the Senate Daily Press Gallery committee to give out “hard passes,” which allows a reporter to enter the press area without an escort. Ateba can still enter the press area with a “daily pass” that requires an escort.
