NEWARK, N.J. — Two transgender Air Force sergeants are asking a federal court to find President Donald Trump's executive order banning transgender people from military service unconstitutional after they were placed on leave and told they can only serve if they do so as women, despite having medically and legally transitioned to men. The service members accuse the Trump Administration of "singling out transgender people ... to brand them as inherently immoral and unfit" in violation of the equal protection component of the Fifth Amendment.
