ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The U.S. Department of Justice and the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, have asked for a federal court to approve the termination of portions of a consent decree that has governed the Albuquerque Police Department since 2015. An independent monitor filed a report indicating that the city’s police have reached 96% compliance with the consent decree, which was established due to the city’s excessive use of force.
