(CN) — A federal judge blocked Kroger’s proposed $24.6 billion takeover of rival supermarket chain Albertsons with a preliminary injunction on Tuesday, preventing the stores from proceeding with the acquisition until federal antitrust regulators complete an in-house investigation.
In a 71-page order, U.S. District Judge Adrienne Nelson wrote that the Federal Trade Commission showed a likelihood of success on the merits following a 15-day preliminary injunction hearing that concluded in September.
