CHICAGO — Jacqueline Stevens, a Northwestern University political scientist who studies deportations and describes her research as analyzing “the contradictions of nativism and nationalism” in U.S. law, saw her Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against ICE, CBP and other federal agencies lose out in an Illinois federal court. Stevens said the agencies were unresponsive to her 14 FOIA requests between 2015 and 2021, but the judge ruled that the agencies properly withheld information based on exceptions in the law.
