LOS ANGELES — Brita Products Co. dodged a class action accusing it of deceiving buyers into thinking that its water filtration systems remove hazardous chemicals from tap water. The consumer claimed that Brita’s filters do not remove PFAs, otherwise known as “forever chemicals,” from water, misleading consumers into thinking they were drinking clean water. A federal judge ruled that the labels on Brita’s products do not claim to remove contaminants completely, only to reduce them, and the company’s filters effectively bring the contaminants down to EPA-approved levels.
